The Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Production, and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction aims to end the suffering and casualties caused by anti-personnel mines by promoting universal adherence, eliminating stockpiles, clearing contaminated land, and assisting survivors. To date, 162 States Parties have joined and collectively destroyed more than 52 million anti-personnel mines.
The Implementation Support Unit (ISU) serves as secretariat by among others, supporting States Parties in meeting their obligations and implementation of the Convention including providing substantive and other support through the Convention’s implementation machinery and office holders; supporting preparations for, and follow ups of, the Convention's formal and informal meetings; providing advice and technical support to individual States Parties; serving as the authoritative information source on the Convention and keeping records including through a Documentation Centre; coordinating and liaising with States not party, other instruments and organisations.
