MEAL officer

## **Looking for something meaningful, analytical, and practical?**

We’re looking for a MEAL Officer to help us better understand what is happening in our healthcare programmes, why it is happening, and how we can improve it.

This role is for someone who enjoys working with data and systems, but who also understands that behind every number there is a patient, a team, and a real-life situation. Someone who likes structure, logic, and analytical thinking, yet is practical enough to adapt tools and approaches to the realities of humanitarian field work.

You’ll work closely with medical teams, field coordinators, and programme staff supporting healthcare services across Ukraine. Your work will help ensure that decisions are based on reliable information and that our programmes continue improving in quality, relevance, and impact.

This is not a purely desk-based research role. We are looking for someone who can move comfortably between spreadsheets, field visits, discussions with healthcare staff, and practical problem-solving.

## **What you’ll be doing**

- Developing and maintaining MEAL systems for healthcare-related humanitarian programmes
- Designing quantitative and qualitative data collection tools that are practical and useful in field conditions
- Supporting needs assessments, monitoring activities, evaluations, and feedback mechanisms
- Analysing programme data and identifying patterns, gaps, and operational insights
- Helping programme teams translate data into practical improvements in service delivery
- Working closely with medical and field teams to ensure data reflects operational realities
- Supporting data quality, consistency, and logical structure across projects
- Preparing reports, summaries, visualisations, and presentations for internal and external use
- Documenting lessons learned and supporting organisational learning
- Contributing to the development of indicators and monitoring frameworks for integrated healthcare services
- Conducting field visits to support implementation and understand programme realities directly
- Supporting MEAL capacity building within field teams
- Abiding by STEP IN policies and procedures

## **What we’re looking for**

- You enjoy analytical thinking and working with data, structure, and logic
- You are comfortable identifying patterns, inconsistencies, and operational meaning behind numbers
- You understand that good data only matters if it helps improve real services for real people
- You are organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple streams of information
- You are practical and adaptable in fast-changing environments
- You communicate well with both technical and non-technical colleagues
- You have good MS Office skills, especially Excel
- Previous experience in MEAL, research, public health, healthcare, or data analysis is a strong advantage
- Understanding of healthcare programmes or humanitarian operations is a significant plus
- You are comfortable stepping outside of a strictly defined MEAL role when needed. In our organisation, teams support each other across functions — whether that means helping improve patient communication materials, supporting field activities, or assisting with practical operational tasks during busy periods.
- Fluent English required; Ukrainian or Russian is a strong advantage
- Driving licence and willingness to travel to field locations are required

## **Contract start date and duration**

- Start date: as soon as possible, to be agreed with the selected candidate
- Duration: minimum 6 months
