**BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT**

This job is found in Area Office (Abeche) and job holder report to the Head of Area Office and Head of Management Services unit.

Job holder operate with a high degree of independence, manage more junior staff to ensure that programme and policy objectives are achieved in full. They are usually involved in a wide variety of programme and policy activities and analytical work, some of which may be of a considerable complexity. At this level job holders are expected to contribute to performance improvement.

**JOB PURPOSE**

To provide support to policy and programme activities that effectively meet food assistance needs.

**ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES**

Following Circular OED2014/015 and Directive RM2015/004, the Engineer shall report to the Head of management Services Unit and shall take technical direction from the Chief Engineer and WFP Engineering in HQ, in relation to all aspects of, design, construction and contract management for these projects in Chad, as required. The duties shall include but are not limited to the following:

**Engineering duties**

1\. Implementation of WFP Policies, standards, norms and practices ensuring compliance with wider WFP policies, procedures, guidelines and operations.

2\. Apply and implement WFP Construction Manual procedures and processes.

3\. Provide engineering and project management services, apply best practices, standards and innovative technologies that comply with WFP standards and processes.

4\. Contribute towards the analysis of several options and identification of the preferred option for the various office premises in accordance with the needs of CO.

5\. Contribute towards the analysis of project proposal to enable effective decision making on project technical feasibility.

6\. Prepare evidenced based recommendations to CO management on measures to improve WFP facilities suitability to operational purpose, safety, and efficiency of structure
