Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is a dynamic, international non-governmental organization. We work with people affected by violent conflicts to enhance their security and dignity through Unarmed Civilian Protection (UCP). We work to reduce violence, protect civilians in countries affected by violent conflict and its aftermath, and help transform the world’s response to conflict situations.

**OVERVIEW**

NP is in the process of scaling up its country program in Sudan to support the strengthening of safety and security of conflict-affected communities in Sudan. Working through Unarmed Civilian Protection (UCP), NP centers local communities in preventing violence and promoting positive peace. The NP programming will focus on building capacities within local communities to engage in nonviolent self-protection methods such as protective accompaniment/presence, community-led safety and security initiatives such as conflict de-escalation techniques and early warning/response mechanisms.

**ABOUT YOU**

Area Manager - International to implement community-based violence reduction and prevention programming in various locations in Sudan, in the context of an on-going civil conflict and extremely high levels of displacement. You will be a person with a genuine commitment to working at the community level, to promote Human rights and are skilled at building trusting relationships in an extremely polarized political climate.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Leadership:**

- Under the supervision of the Head of Mission, the Field Coordinator/Program Manager will support the effective coordination of NP’s protection response, support systems and programming across the assigned areas of operation (all localities as accessible). The Field Coordinator/Program Manager will provide managerial and technical support to the staff based in these localities and will invest in their capacity building to enhance their skills. The Field Coordinator/Program Manager will represent NP locally, engaging with authorities, UN, INGOs and other local actors to ensure effective coordination and collaboration. Internally, the Field Coordinator/Program Manager shall ensure effective communication and cooperation between the program and support teams in the field, and serve as a communication channel between the field and the country office.

**Representation & external coordination:**

- Under the delegation of the Head of Mission, represent NP with local and state level authorities; support the national and International staff to coordinate with local authorities, line ministries, and other civil or security authorities in their area as necessary. Develop and expand a local network of contacts (institutional actors, community leaders, and other stakeholders).
- Participate in field-level coordination structures and area-based coordination and engage with international and local partners to ensure effective collaboration and avoid duplication.

- Promote and facilitate effective community engagement and the communication of NP’s programs to local communities and other stakeholders.

**Coordination of NP operations at the field level:**

- Contribute to defining of NP’s protection response strategy in collaboration with the Head of Mission (HoM), Head of Programme (HoM), Operations and other programme staff.
- Support in needs assessments in the field, in liaison with the MEAL and program teams.

- Support by providing input into project design, including feeding into concept notes/proposals and actively proposing ways in which NP programming can be strengthened and expanded.

- Ensure effective coordination and support the implementation of program activities efficiently, in compliance with work plans developed by the Head of Programmes, Team Leaders, procurement and recruitment plans, technical standards and donor rules. Propose solutions to mitigate blockages and obstacles and work with program and support teams to implement them.

- Actively take the lead on operational implementation of project activities, including first-line activities, in specified areas as agreed with the HoM and HoP.

- Contribute to the daily conflict context analysis and reporting, monitoring of expenses and adherence to program and support budgets in compliance with donor and internal NP rules; promptly flag to the HoM and/or the HoP any significant issues identified.

- Ensure effective coordination between programs, grants, MEAL and support department staff (finance, logistics, and HR) at field level, ensuring good communication and collaboration and addressing any issues or obstacles to this.
