Overview of position
- Our clients Engineering and Facilities Management Section (EFMS) is responsible for supporting water supply systems, wastewater treatment operations, environmental protection measures and public health monitoring activities across mission locations. These activities require routine water quality monitoring, laboratory analysis, environmental reporting and operational support to ensure compliance with applicable standards and mission requirements.
- To support these functions, our client requires a Water Analysis Laboratory Technician capable of conducting water and wastewater sampling, field testing, laboratory analysis, equipment maintenance and technical reporting. The position also provides support for engineering documentation activities through field surveys, measurements, preparation of technical drawings and maintenance of as-built records required for engineering and facilities management projects.
Role objectives
The Water Analysis Laboratory Technician will provide laboratory and field support for water quality monitoring, wastewater analysis and environmental compliance activities while assisting engineering teams with field measurements and technical documentation. The incumbent will:
- Implement water and wastewater sampling and testing programmes.
- Conduct laboratory and field analysis of water quality parameters.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, testing records and quality databases.
- Support environmental monitoring and public health protection activities.
- Identify and report water quality non-compliances and operational risks.
- Prepare technical reports and maintain laboratory documentation.
- Assist engineering personnel with field measurements, surveys and site verification activities.
- Support preparation and updating of technical drawings, layouts and as-built documentation.
- Maintain engineering records, site documentation and construction-related technical information.
Expected output:
Water and Wastewater Monitoring
- Water and wastewater sampling schedules prepared and implemented.
- Sampling activities conducted in accordance with approved procedures.
- Laboratory and field testing completed for required physical, chemical and microbiological parameters.
- Water quality monitoring data recorded and maintained accurately.
- Unsafe or non-compliant results identified and promptly reported.
Laboratory Operations and Equipment Management
- Laboratory logbooks, sample registers and testing records maintained.
- Calibration records and equipment maintenance logs updated.
- Reagent inventories monitored and replenishment requirements identified.
- Laboratory equipment maintained in operational condition.
- Sample chain-of-custody records maintained and documented.
Environmental and Public Health Support
- Water quality trends analyzed and reported.
- Non-compliance observations and recommendations documented.
- Support provided for wastewater quality monitoring and environmental protection activities.
- Technical support provided for operator awareness and quality control initiatives.
- Monitoring support provided for hazardous liquid waste management activities, as directed.
Engineering Documentation and Technical Support
- Field surveys, measurements and site verification activities completed.
- Construction layouts, site plans and technical sketches prepared or updated.
- AutoCAD drawings and as-built documentation maintained and revised.
- Field observations, photographs and site documentation recorded and organized.
- Engineering and facilities management records updated and maintained.
Project reporting
The Water Analysis Laboratory Technician will report to the WATSAN Engineer, Chief Engineer, EFMS, or designated supervisor. Reporting requirements include:
- Water and wastewater sampling records.
- Laboratory analysis reports.
- Weekly and monthly water quality reports.
- Calibration and maintenance records.
- Sample registers and laboratory logbooks.
- Water quality trend analyses and recommendations.
- Site survey and measurement records.
- As-built documentation updates.
- AutoCAD drawings and technical sketches.
- Construction documentation and site verification reports.
Reports shall be prepared and maintained in accordance with EFMS procedures, laboratory protocols and mission reporting requirements.
Key competencies
Qualifications:
- Technical diploma or first-level university degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, Microbiology, Water/Wastewater Technology, Laboratory Technology or a related field (required).
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or an equivalent field. Technical or vocational training in drafting, AutoCAD, surveying, civil works, construction supervision or related disciplines (desired).
