**About ACLED**
The Armed Conflict Location & Event Data organization (ACLED) is a disaggregated data collection, analysis, and crisis mapping institution. The ACLED team collects conflict information, conducts analysis to describe, explore, and test conflict scenarios, and makes both data and analysis openly accessible. ACLED's work informs journalism, academic research, and public discourse on conflict, and supports practitioners and policymakers worldwide. ACLED is the highest-quality and most widely used real-time data and analysis source on political violence and protest globally.
**The Consultancy Opportunity**
ACLED is opening a call to look for candidates who are interested in a consultancy opportunity as a Research Analyst, for the Middle East region.
This opportunity is fully remote and can be done from any location with reliable internet service.
The consultant is expected to cover 20 hours per week, with the possibility of increasing up to 30 hours per week.
**Specific Deliverables**
*Analysis*
- Contribute to ACLED analysis by authoring original outputs focusing on the Middle East, under the direction of the Senior Analyst, Middle East and in coordination with the Global Data Collection and Data Science teams as necessary.
- Make region-specific contributions to thematic or global outputs.
- Provide expert commentary and analysis for outputs produced by the External Affairs team.
- Support the Senior Analyst, Middle East with other analysis and data-related deliverables as required.
*Data management*
- Support data collection, review, and enrichment, in coordination with the Global Data Collection and Methodology teams.
- Contribute to improving regional coverage of ACLED data, identifying new local sources or partners in the Middle East.
*Outreach*
- Provide expert analysis for donors and stakeholders.
- Provide expert commentary for media organizations.
- Attend briefings, conferences, and other events to disseminate ACLED research and promote ACLED work as necessary.
**Skills and experience**
- Experience in conflict analysis.
- Extensive knowledge of politics and society in Yemen, Iraq, and/or the Gulf.
- At least two (2) years of work experience providing actionable insights to a diverse range of audiences (public sector, private sector, international organizations, media.
- Master’s Degree in Political Science/Social Sciences/Geography/Sociology focused on conflict studies or equivalent required.
- Fluency in English and Arabic.
- Demonstrated familiarity with the ACLED dataset.
- Demonstrated familiarity with data analysis and visualization software.
- Strong critical thinking and data analysis skills.
- Strong writing skills.
- A high level of attention to detail and the ability to receive and incorporate feedback.
- Experience working in a team, to tight deadlines, and with limited supervision.
- Access to a computer, a reliable internet connection, email address, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
