**Organisation Background** Founded in 2011, the International NGO Safety Organization (INSO) is an international NGO that supports humanitarian aid workers by establishing safety coordination platforms in insecure contexts. INSO provides registered NGOs with a range of free services, including real-time incident tracking, analytical reports, safety-related data and mapping, crisis management support, staff orientations, and training. INSO provides daily support to more than 1,500 NGOs operating in 24 of the world’s most insecure countries. INSO is registered in the Netherlands, with its headquarters located in The Hague, a city renowned for its international focus on peace and justice. **INSO Syria:** The Syria program supports more than 290 NGOs to deliver vitally needed aid and assistance to an estimated 13.1 million people in need across the country. First launched as an emergency response operation in 2014, , INSO Syria has grown to become a program covering all Syrian governorates, with a Country Office in Damascus. The Syria conflict is unique and complex; you will find that every day is different and there is always more to learn. **Job Summary** As the Training Officer, you will have the exciting opportunity to be part of Delivering training for INSO Syria, in all locations covered by INSO. You will play a key role in organizing, delivering, and evaluating training courses that support national and international NGOs in organizational safety and security management, personal risk mitigation, and humanitarian access, first aid and other relevant topics as required. You will contribute to compliance with INSO training standards and best practices. Regular in-country travel is required. The ideal candidate is highly organized, experienced in working with humanitarian organizations, and comfortable with administrative tasks. They are motivated, self-directed, and able to take initiative when needed. A strong interest in INSO’s mission, the Syrian context, and the humanitarian sector is essential. The successful candidate will be based in Damascus. **MainResponsibilities** Course development: - Adapt first aid courses to the context. - Contextualise the fictional contexts/ role plays, exercises, case studies of courses to the medical and health threats in accordance with INSO training standards. - Revise learning activities to fit the context. - Integrate lessons learnt into course packages. - Support the TM in the adaptation of other courses to the context. - Advise on the adaptation of courses’ fictional contexts/ role plays, exercises, and case studies to the threats and context in accordance with INSO training standards. - Suggest a revision of learning activities to fit with the context. - Develop continuous self-awareness and knowledge of the context. - Attend roundtables, read reports and other services. - Actively listen to Partners during the course to ensure adequacy between courses and their reality. - Translate key terminology from English to Arabic to ensure maximum accessibility of course content. - Prepare paper-based training materials, course plans, presentations, and printed flip charts. Training Needs Assessment: - Participate in Training Needs Assessments, including focus groups, interviews, data processing and reporting. - Informally gather information on training needs through regular contact with INSO partners. - Contribute to analysing training needs, particularly leveraging the Partners’ knowledge and understanding of the context. Training Facilitation: - Facilitate training in an interesting and engaging manner. - Create a safe environment where participants feel comfortable sharing their experiences and points of view. - Lead the facilitation of sessions assigned in the Annual Plan in diverse country locations. - Ensure the quality and conformity of the training with INSO standards. - Ensure that the learning objectives are achieved. - Organise training logistics and administration, e.g. prepare training schedules, organise venues, advertise training, print materials etc. Maintain an inventory of training supplies, materials, and equipment, including safe storage. Monitoring & Evaluation: - Ensure pre/post-tests are completed for relevant trainings. - Ensure evaluation forms are completed for all trainings. - Update M&E databases after each training. - Complete Sessions Reports and other reporting as requested by TM. Other: - Build good relationships with INSO Syria partners. - Deliver first aid care to participants when required. - Work with INSO Syria colleagues on the administration of procurement requests, finance and budget control, travel and accommodation for field missions etc. - Other duties as requested by the TM. **Mandatory Requirements** - Medical qualification certifying a minimum of 2 years of medical education (such as medical doctor, paramedic, nurse, etc.) **OR** have a minimum of 2 years of experience delivering first aid courses and hold an advanced first aid certification. - Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience in emergency care. - Excellent command of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint). - Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience in the humanitarian, adult-learning, or civilian safety and security sector. - Well-developed networking and organisational skills. - Excellent command of Arabic and English languages (written and spoken). *Desirable* - Experience in project management. - Experience delivering courses focusing on NGO safety and security management, personal safety, humanitarian access, and negotiations. - Experience in hostile environment emergency care. - Experience in public speaking. - Experience delivering first aid courses and/or first aid certifications. - Experience implementing technical solutions in training settings. **Key Competencies** - Prioritisation – Effectively manages multiple tasks and competing deadlines in a dynamic environment. - Attention to detail – Ensures accuracy, consistency, and quality in work and processes. - Problem-solving -Identifies issues, analyses situations critically, and contributes to practical solutions. - Autonomy- Works independently, proactively, and efficiently with minimal supervision. - Humanitarian commitment – Demonstrates alignment with humanitarian principles, ethics, and organisational values. **Terms & Conditions** This position is based in Damascus and is only open to individuals with the right to live and work in Damascus. 12-month contract with a 3-month probation period. The starting date will be August 2026.
