Fresh out of university? Passionate about development, research, or consulting? Want your first *real* experience, not coffee runs, but actual fieldwork, data, and policy? AFDC Global is looking for motivated early-career young person, based in any of of these countries: ?? Bangladesh | ?? Mongolia | ?? Nepal | ?? Philippines | ?? Sri Lanka | ?? Vanuatu. If you're based in one of these countries, speak the local language, and are hungry to build a real career in international development — this one's for you.
**What's the Opportunity?**
You'll work directly with AFDC Director Sachi Satapathy on a live, multi-country project, supporting data collection, community engagement, report writing, and field coordination. This is the kind of hands-on experience that takes most people years to access. You get it in Month 1.
**Duration:** 6 Months
**Type:** Unpaid (Learning & Development)
**Mode:** Remote + In-Country Fieldwork
**Reports to:** Sachi Satapathy, Director, AFDC Global
## What You'll Actually Do
- Co-facilitate Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) with teachers, youth, parents, and community leaders
- Support survey rollout and data collection across schools and communities
- Help with participant mobilization — reaching diverse groups including girls, rural communities, and marginalized populations
- Assist with policy document collection and desk research on education and digital learning
- Translate and contextualize research tools into local language
- Support data entry, transcription, and basic qualitative coding
- Attend regular virtual meetings with the AFDC team and contribute country updates
- Be part of building evidence that influences real policy
## What You'll Walk Away With
This isn't just a line on your CV. In 6 months, you will have:
- Run real FGDs and interviews in the field
- Contributed to a multi-country mixed-methods study project
- Gained direct mentorship from an international development director
- Built skills in ethical research, stakeholder engagement, and data analysis, partnership coordination, global exposure
- A formal AFDC Certificate of Internship and a strong reference
- A real understanding of what development consulting looks like from the inside
## You're the Right Person If…
- You recently completed (or are about to complete) a degree in social sciences, education, public policy, development studies, public health, sociology, anthropology, statistics, or something related
- You have some exposure to data collection — from your thesis, a class project, or volunteering
- You live in Bangladesh, Mongolia, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, or Vanuatu (this is non-negotiable, only in-country candidates will be considered)
- You're fluent in your local language and comfortable working English language
- You're organized, curious, and self-driven, you don't wait to be told what to do
- You care about education, youth, equity, and how technology shapes the future
- You want to eventually work in development consulting, evaluation, or research — and you know you need experience to get there
This internship is fully unpaid. AFDC Global is a lean, impact-driven organization. What we offer instead is something harder to find: direct access, real responsibility, and mentorship that accelerates your career. Past AFDC interns have gone on to roles in international organizations, NGOs, and consulting firms.
