Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience of which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes development, coordination, and implementation of the fire protection and fire safety training programs; training firefighters; practical knowledge in all phases of fire protection and prevention techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the specialized experience required to qualify for the GS-09 level you must also possess and maintain ALL the following Department of Defense (or reciprocal equivalent) certification, certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M. Must possess and maintain DoD Firefighter Certifications: Fire Instructor III Fire Officer III Fire Inspector II Hazardous Material Incident Commander Driver Operator-Pumper Driver Operator Mobile Water Supply Driver Operator ARFF Driver Operator Aerial Certification/license as state or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B) or higher NOTE: You MUST attach a copy of ALL the required certificates to your application package.
