**Save the Children International** Save the Children International is a leading global humanitarian organization that has been protecting children's rights worldwide for over 100 years. We operate in more than 100 countries, responding to emergencies, implementing innovative development programs, and advocating for children's rights on a global scale. Our work in Ukraine began in 2014. Since then, we have significantly expanded our presence, providing support to children and families affected by war. Our key areas of focus include education, child protection, food security, social support, and advocacy to drive lasting change in children's lives. **ROLE PURPOSE:** The Climate and Environment Technical Advisor will use their in-depth contextual understanding, technical and practical expertise, and relationship building skills to define and deliver our strategic ambition for advancing child-centred climate resilience in Ukraine. The role will lead strategy development and the technical design and implementation of high-quality programmes that advance child-centred climate resilience in both emergency and development programming. The role will support various thematic technical advisors in integrating climate risk and climate resilience interventions into our programs so that we contribute effectively to survival, development, and protection of children with their full participation in the climate crisis. The role will collaborate with programme/partnership, gender and CRG advisors to promote strategic collaboration among all partners to nurture partner-led capacity building, sharing of best practices, and collaboration on inclusive and gender responsive climate resilience and justice for children. The role supports national advocacy and influencing for children’s right to a healthy environment, while driving strategic partnerships for new business development, helping to position Save the Children as a leading Child Rights organization on climate. It provides leadership to ensure our work is evidence-based and climate-risk informed and supports the design and implementation of monitoring and evaluation systems to demonstrate impact for children, while sharing learning across our programmes, teams, and partners. **KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:** **Technical Leadership:** - Provide technical leadership for climate resilience for the Country Office, ensuring alignment to Save the Children’s global thematic priorities and breakthroughs, and technical steers and set the strategic approach in relation to the wider country strategy, with explicit linkages to other thematic and cross thematic steers, and with a focus on gender and disability inclusion. - Support the Country Office to implement Save the Children’s Global Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change Policy - Provide coordination support at the Country Office for SC’s global initiatives on the Climate Crisis and contribute to the global SC work on climate change by sharing Country Office experiences, practices and results. **Ensuring Programme Quality (Design & Implementation):** - Work closely with new business development colleagues to identify and pursue funding opportunities; engage with technical partners, donors and colleagues across Save the Children - Lead the technical scoping, planning, and design and proposal writing during new programme development, and ensure that we design and deliver high quality, holistic child-centred climate resilience programmes, building on global best practice. Ensure that broader intersecting social justice and disability considerations are reflected in our climate resilience programme design and implementation. - Work with Child Rights Governance colleagues to ensure that a rights based approach is reflected in our programme design and implementation, with a strong focus on child participation - Contribute to the development, dissemination, monitoring and evaluation of innovative program quality tools and resources focused on advancing child-centred climate resilience. - Support other country technical experts to understand and contextualise child-centred climate resilience guidance for their thematic areas. - Provide technical inputs on climate crisis focused advocacy initiatives in Ukraine. - Undertake field visits to project sites; work with implementation teams to understand impacts, operational challenges, and continuously identify opportunities for learning and improvement. - Distil learnings and evidence generated into succinct and compelling programmatic guidance and thought leadership for internal and external consumption. Contribute to organisational learning on child-centred climate resilience, ensuring that learning from our programmes is shared across the Country Office and with our partners, as well as with colleagues in the wider regional and global climate resilience community within Save the Children via Technical Working/Leadership Groups and Communities of Practice and externally.
