Youth Education Manager
Full Description
**Job Overview:** The Youth Education Manager leads IRC New York’s programming for children and youth. Ensures that the New York Youth Programs team meets the needs of newcomer youth in the New York City area, managing an annual program portfolio of approximately $3.5 million. They manage program development and implementation, ensure compliance of services within grants and contracts, participate in program fundraising and partnership development and management, and represent IRC New York in local forums on education and learning issues.
**Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:**
Programmatic Leadership
- Provide leadership, vision, program design and development, and implementation plans for youth programming.
- Oversee implementation of youth program activities, including but not limited to, youth tutoring activities, the Newcomers Youth Summer Academy, Leaders in Training, Student Support Coaching, and other activities as identified.
- Establish and foster relationships with local actors in education and social services
- Oversee partnerships and subgrants to other local organizations implementing youth programming, including the delivery of technical assistance to partners and subgrantees.
- Contribute to grant and proposal writing to maintain and expand funding base.
- Accountable for ensuring accurate and timely reporting of services and programmatic data to donors and all relevant parties.
- Coordinate closely with other IRC NY department leads and staff to ensure seamless delivery of services to clients utilizing a client-centered service model.
- Represent the Youth Program team within the IRC network in conferences, working groups and other contexts
People Management
- Manage a team in accordance with IRC’s People Manager Standards, including leading a team of approximately 10 staff members, including 4 direct reports. Formally evaluate team and individual performance to ensure objectives have been met.
- Recruit, train, and provide ongoing support to staff in all aspects of Youth Program responsibilities.
- Promote staff participation in IRC and local networking and learning opportunities.
Resource & Partnership Management
- Effectively manage the development of all Youth Program proposals and service contracts, their implementation, compliance, and completion.
- Develop program budgets in collaboration with Deputy Director, Finance, and Resource Development teams. Oversee program budgets and manage expenses to ensure costs are maintained within allocated budgets.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of services and programmatic data to donors and all relevant parties.
- Oversee subgrant partnerships with other local community organizations.
- Serve as Youth Programs team point person for collaboration and correspondence with external stakeholders including partner agencies and service providers
- Collaborate with Executive Director and IRC communication staff on media initiatives, including coordinating media visit and participating in media interviews.
- Other duties as assigned.
**Education:** Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in education, child psychology, social work or relevant field strongly preferred.
**Work Experience:**
- Minimum five years’ progressive work experience in education and/or youth development programming.
- Minimum of three years’ experience managing multiple, complex education programs including staff management, program development, monitoring, and evaluation, and advocacy experience required. Subgrant management a plus.
- Experience working with English Language Learning students essential.
**Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:**
- Previous fundraising and grant writing experience; strong analytical, training, oral and written communication skills; excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to promote an organizational culture that reflects IRC’s core values of service, accountability, integrity, and equality. Ability to lead in a way that recognizes that IRC’s work is best accomplished through the true collaboration of individuals from many cultures with a great variety of skills and perspectives
- Solid diplomacy, relationship building and networking skills; ability to effectively manage internal and external relationships, including community stakeholders and donors
- Previous financial management experience, including proven effective management of budgets
- Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to work successfully in cross-cultural environment
- Solid organizational skills with ability to multi-task, set priorities, manage time, and meet deadlines. Flexibility and ability to work well under pressure is essential.
**Working Environment:**
- A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
- May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
**Compensation:** (Pay Rate: $78,900 - $83,000)*
