Full Description

This grant provides travel support for approximately 55 graduate students and 10 postdoctoral fellows to present their research at the 17th World Congress on Computational Mechanics and 10th European Congress on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences and Engineering (WCCM-ECCOMAS 2026), which will be held in Munich, Germany, 19-24 July 2026. WCCM-ECCOMAS 2026 is expected to be one of the largest international gatherings in computational mechanics and computational science and engineering, attracting a global audience from academia, government, and industry. The congress will feature a broad range of symposia spanning fundamental and applied aspects of mechanics, including the behavior of deformable solids and structures under internal and external actions, as well as emerging computational methodologies such as quantum mechanics, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning.

This grant will enable US-based graduate students and postdoctoral researchers to present their work and engage with leading experts in the field at WCCM-ECCOMAS 2026. The conference includes dedicated initiatives such as Special Technology Sessions (STS), emphasizing industrial engagement, and activities organized by the Next Generation in Computational Engineering (NGCE) committee to foster mentoring and networking among early-career researchers. Travel fellowship recipients will be selected through a competitive process administered by the United States Association for Computational Mechanics (USACM) and will be required to present their accepted work at the congress. By supporting participation in this premier international forum, the project will strengthen the visibility of US research, broaden professional networks, and cultivate the next generation of leaders in emerging computational topics such as quantum mechanics, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning.
