Full Description

**The starting salary package for this position is £84,636 GBP / approx. $114,300 USD including all allowances.**

**This role is subject to funding.**

**About MAG:**

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

**About the role:**

The Standards and Training Manager (STM) will manage and develop technical training and standards across the programme in all matters relating to field operations, equipment and training, which includes the management of a Standards and Training Team, as well as provide logistical and administrative support to the Technical Operations Manager (TOM). This support will include compilation of training management practices and training plans to assist in maintenance of operational effectiveness through coordination, planning and assessment management, including implementation of a comprehensive Quality Management System. You will conduct incident and accident investigations and prepare comprehensive reports in compliance with MAG’s Global Technical Standards. You will also deputise for the TOM when required, so the ability to think strategically is a must.

Roles are in remote areas, working in challenging contexts away from home comforts, but the life-saving impact the work has on local communities is very real, and rewarding.

**About the Syria programme:**

MAG has been responding to the Syria crisis since 2013, working to support development by finding and destroying the explosive remnants of war so that communities can raise their families and pursue their livelihoods in a safe and secure environment, free from fear of death or injury. In addition to our current programme in the North East, you will also support the safe expansion of initiatives across all of Syria, based on where and how opportunities arise in the future.

**Requirements:**

You must be EOD 3 and IEDD qualified, and have experience in mine clearance and EOD operations in developing or conflict-affected countries contaminated by explosive remnants of war, as well as managing field clearance operations. Your background will include experience in implementing and monitoring quality assurance processes to ensure compliance with international standards and MAG’s internal procedures, reinforcing safe and effective operations. With a sharp focus on operational excellence, you’ll champion high standards and foster a culture of continuous improvement that keeps our teams safe and effective on the ground. You’ll also have experience designing, developing, and delivering formal or informal technical training, ensuring the effective transfer of skills to others.

Living and working abroad—ideally in sensitive conflict or post-conflict settings—should be second nature to you, and you’ll have the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines, even under pressure.

**We’re looking for someone with:**

- Extensive experience of working in HMA operations in the management of Land Release, including clearance, technical survey, non-technical survey in mine clearance, EOD and IED operations.
- Extensive experience in the management of training and quality assurance teams and activities.

- Experience of managing and conducting formal or informal training and the transfer of appropriate skills to

- others.

- Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (IEDD) up to Level 3+ in line with IMAS 09.31/01/2019. This can be from a relevant and recognised military, civilian or HMA NGO.
