Full Description

Project Summary
The overarching goal of the Remote Data Enclave Core (Core F) of the Michigan Center on the Demography of

Aging (MiCDA) is to advance research on the demography of aging by sharing restricted data from studies

funded by the National Institute on Aging (NIA). In the coming cycle, this core will continue to oversee the secure

MiCDA virtual data enclave, which provides study-partner-approved researchers with secure access to restricted

data from specified remote locations at no charge. Study partners currently include the largest and longest

running National Institute on Aging (NIA)-funded panel studies: the Health and Retirement Study (HRS), the

Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID), and the National Health and Aging Trends Study/National Study of

Caregiving (NHATS/NSOC). In the coming cycle, Core F will continue to provide secure, virtual access to

restricted data through the MiCDA enclave by: adding new data from existing study partners, exploring new

partnership opportunities and broadening contextual holdings in its Geographic Linkages Repository; regularly

reviewing and upgrading hardware and software infrastructure and monitoring capacity; investigating and

remedying barriers that may unintentionally impede access to the MICDA enclave and launching a stipend

program to attract new researchers; and adding capacity to expand use of machine learning and deep learning

models in the MiCDA enclave. Core F will also collaborate with Core A on tracking, analyzing and reporting

outcomes.
