Full Description

PROJECT SUMMARY – LS-SS-OCT
The objective of this project is to develop a portable, low-cost line-scan swept-source

optical coherence tomography imaging system (LS-SS-OCT) for application in early

detection and monitoring of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy,

and other eye diseases. The project addresses the recognized need for a more affordable

OCT system allowing the technology to be more widely adopted to reduce the prevalence of

AMD related vision loss and legal blindness by earlier detection of AMD in patients (earlier

screens) and more frequent monitoring of progression of AMD. Dry AMD, if not monitored

and treated appropriately, can progress into the wet form of AMD which is currently

responsible for more than 90% of the cases of legal blindness.
