Full Description

REVISED Project Summary - Integrated Data and Exposure Analytics (IDEA) Core
The overarching goal of the Integrated Data and Exposure Analytics Core (IDEA) is to coordinate and facilitate research and training across the CHART (Charting Solutions for Health Impacts of Extreme Weather) Center. We will achieve this by supporting data systems and data science approaches to expedite study design, data collection, analysis, integration, and dissemination. We will also facilitate exposure assessment to extreme weather events, integration, and modeling activities. While this framework will advance extreme weather and health research and training at Columbia University and beyond in the long term, our initial focus will be on the two research Projects and pilot studies funded through the Pilot Project Program (P 3 ). The Core activities are organized around four interrelated aims: (1) providing statistical resources, data analysis capabilities, and reproducibility tools; (2) integrating and enhancing data management, harmonization, sharing, and interoperability; (3) supporting exposure assessment, modeling, and integration; and (4) building capacity and training across CHART through a well-designed workshop series and engagement of researchers and trainees focusing on extreme weather and health. Through these aims, IDEA will provide centralized oversight for study design, data analytic approaches, data management, software development, and quality assurance/control. It will also foster data sharing and interoperability plans across CHART and beyond. IDEA will support exposure assessment, modeling, and integration for the two Research Projects and pilot projects, as well as relevant extreme weather and health-related activities within CHART and beyond. A major function of IDEA is capacity building, primarily through workshops run in coordination with the Administrative and Community Engagement Cores. IDEA activities will be dynamic and responsive to CHART's evolution and developments in extreme weather and data science, guided by an active feedback mechanism across CHART. The Core is well-positioned to help prioritize CHART activities and ensure quality control by continuously monitoring analytic strategies and adherence to standard operating procedures. By ensuring proper study design, integrated data management protocols, and appropriate exposure assessment techniques, IDEA will enhance CHART’s mission through quantitative input, transforming extreme weather and health research toward actionable solutions via interdisciplinary collaborations.
