For more information, visit www.worldbank.org VPU Context: The Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan Region The Middle East and North Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan Region serves twenty two countries across different income groups, of which fourteen are active/potentially active IBRD/IDA borrowers (Afghanistan, Algeria, Djibouti, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Pakistan, Syria, West Bank and Gaza, Tunisia, and Yemen), with a total of 251 projects and over $51 bn in total commitment. Eight are users of the Region's non-lending services, mostly on a reimbursable basis (Bahrain, Kuwait, Libya, Malta, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates). Unit Context: MNA Water Unit Water touches every aspect of development and it links to nearly every Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). It drives economic growth, supports healthy ecosystems, and is essential and fundamental for life itself. Water availability and management impacts whether poor girls are educated; whether cities are healthy places to live; whether countries have food security; and whether growing industries or poor villages can withstand the impacts of floods or droughts. For more information: https://www.worldbank.org/en/topic/water . The MNA Water Unit (SMNWA) is a regional unit decentralized with more than half of the staff in country offices. Its focus is on lending and analytical operations, with an active lending portfolio of approximately US$2.3 billion portfolio. The Bank’s support to the Government of Tunisia combines analytics and investment support across a number of water-related topics including water supply, water sector governance, water resources management, improving private sector participation, irrigation and the water-agriculture nexus. To strengthen its ability to support water sector development in Tunisia, the MNA Water unit seeks to recruit a Water Specialist in the World Bank office in Tunis to work as a member of the Tunisia Water team, with a special focus on the preparation and implementation of investment projects in the portfolio, and on analytical activities to inform the water sector agenda. The water portfolio is Tunisia is currently composed of: (i) the Tunisia Resilience and Water Security (RESEau) Program which focuses on improving the quality and resilience of water services; on strengthening the operational performance of the water utilities and public operators; and increasing agricultural productivity; (ii) the Tunisia Sanitation PPP Support Project (ONAS PPP) which focuses on increasing access to and improve the quality of wastewater management services; and on strengthening ONAS’ capacity to manage PPP contracts for the delivery of sanitation services; and (iii) the Tunisia Irrigated Agriculture Intensification Project (PIAIT), aiming at improving the reliability and efficiency of the irrigation and drainage services in selected public irrigation schemes. In addition to these lending operations, the MNA Water unit works closely with other operational units and leads analytical work of relevance to water and resilience.
