PROJECT SUMMARY/ABSTRACT – Core E: External Research Resources Support Core
The objective of Core E is to facilitate the development and broad sharing of user-friendly databases created

by CEDA affiliates. We build on CEDA’s past successes in sharing data that are accessed by thousands of

external users, particularly through the creation of clean and consistent data intended for use by policy and lay

communities in addition to academic researchers. Core E’s three aims are designed to (1) assist affiliates in

broadly sharing the data resources that they are creating, (2) train researchers in their use, and (3) further

develop innovative and user-friendly data resources. Given that CEDA has long been a leader in the

development and dissemination of macro-demographic data on aging, especially applying formal demographic

methods for construction of cutting-edge life table data for mortality analyses, among other projects we

propose to continue notable support for sharing regularly updated data from the widely used Human Mortality

Database. The ultimate goal of Core E is to expand and democratize use of these resources so as to increase

CEDA-relevant research by external constituencies, including early career researchers as well as those

outside of research-intensive universities.
