REVISED ABSTRACT – CORE C: COMMUNICATION AND DISSEMINATION CORE (CDC)
The Communication and Dissemination Core (CDC) advances the mission of the USC/UCLA Center on Biodemography and Population Health (CBPH) by enhancing the visibility, reach, and impact of the Center’s research, resources, and activities. The CDC will ensure that biodemographic research reaches a broad audience of early-career and more established researchers, policymakers, and the public.

Leveraging the expertise of its leadership and the communications team of the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, the CDC’s activities facilitate knowledge exchange across disciplines, career stages, and institutions. By making research findings accessible to specialists and non-specialists alike, the CDC fosters collaboration, informs policy discussions, and enhances public understanding of how the aging process is accelerated or slowed by social, behavioral, psychological, economic, environmental, and health care availability factors and how these factors interact with biology to contribute to population health and health disparities. The objectives of the CDC are to disseminate data resources, communicate research findings, and maximize the Center’s impact through the following activities: 1) develop and maintain the CBPH website as a central repository for resources, achievements, and rapid dissemination of key findings; 2) promote CBPH activities and achievements across the network of Demography of Aging P30 Centers and the broader scientific community through targeted communication efforts, including quarterly newsletters; (3) translate research findings into accessible formats for both academic and non-academic audiences, including podcasts and visual materials such as infographics; and (4) extend the Center’s reach by cultivating relationships with researchers across disciplines, career stages, and institutions, as well as engaging with the general public. The CDC works closely with the other CBPH Cores to ensure that new scientific information and resources are quickly made publicly available in accessible formats. The CDC’s activities are designed to amplify the impact of CBPH’s work, ensuring that biodemographic advances and research resources are disseminated widely and integrated into ongoing research efforts in population health and the demography of aging. Through its efforts, the CDC will continue to support the Center’s leadership in addressing critical questions in population health, aging, and health disparities.
